Simple molecular feedbacks drive statistical biases via differences in state persistence. Resulting configuration
differentials act like competing populations and thus the interface begins to behave like an abiotic ecological
niche. At some point the more evolved aspects become less coupled to local cyclic constraints by
internalising various homeostatic cycles with means to  self perpertuate and thus enable a
relatively robust independent existence. In principle the chemistry is somewhat
irrelevant. The primary requirement  a continuum of states with low to
 high persistence, feedback does the rest...
