A vintage railway lantern spied at a market; a Victorian mystery; a new approach to a familiar material. A look back towards the past as we hurtle at an unprecedented rate into the future. And a challenge, in the form of the question: “What would you make if you were freed from function?”The work in Spilled Light responds to all of these, exploring the malleability of memory and the power of objects to evoke emotion."

These bottles are made by coil and pinch pot method. They look fantasitc as a pair but we can sell separately.
This wall shield is made by dribbling liquid clay into a mould. It is called "Peripatus"
Totora Congress is landscape inspired, the sky depicted by the brass oval. The child like tree forms could also be read as heads, hense the use of the term congress in the title. The honey combed totara plank, is representative of the earth/land.
Wheeled Ark I was part of the Passing Landscape exhibtion. This sculpture comes from the idea that wherever you go there you are.
Part of Passing Landscapes exhibition, these landscaped pieces are have a dreamlike quality. This on is most like a Georgio DeCherio painting.
After much procrastination Brendan has now put one of his woven bowls into the gallery. This bowl is made of plastic coated cane, (a material much used in the seventies), and is threaded it into a ceramic base.
Directly inspired by the nebulous space between manufacture of crafted objects and studio craft practice, Melissa McMahon’s objects are often influenced by fragments of emotions and experiences. The contents of her grandmother’s china cabinet created childhood memories of Jasperware and luster and it was these mass produced objects which led her to ceramics. She uses clay to process these fragments and memories into contemporary pieces which allow her to explore and promote notions of craft.After many years spent working in the fashion industry, fate and serendipity aligned, allowing her to complete a degree in Contemporary Craft at Unitec. Melissa’s work has been selected as Boards Choice in the Eden Arts Art Schools award at The Gus Fisher Gallery in 2015, and was recognized with a Highly Commended Award in the ECC Student Craft and Design Awards at The Dowse the same year.Since graduating, her work has been included in two group shows at The Vivian Gallery in Matakana, with a significant number of pieces now included in private collections. Currently she is being mentored by Brendan Adams working from his studio.
