"The universe is not only stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine."

Introduction.

An astronomer would be the first to admit to you that the universe is a strange, strange place. Monstrous black holes in the centre of the galaxy devouring stars, comets crash into Jupiter exploding as fireballs the size of the Earth, and there may be the real possibility that microbes are alive on Mars, farting out methane. But it would seem that some days, the most peculiar, the strangest thing in the whole universe, are the people on this Earth.

The following pages are a look at some of the mysteries and issues that have come up in astronomy. Some of them, like the Martian Canals, are old ones that have long been solved. Others are more difficult and do not go away quite so easily. In any case, the one thing that these anomalies have in common is the passionate belief that many of their advocates have.

Lets have a look!
