Commencing 6 January 2002, 500+ 13-18 year old girls ...

  • were based at Wingatui, South of Dunedin

  • met other young women including some from overseas

  • participated in one of 28 five-day activities (see below)

  • had the opportunity to choose from a wide range of day and half day programmes (eg photography, golf, goldmining, Taieri Gorge Railway, craft crawl, ride a horse, visit the university...)

Say hello to Scotty (at left), who will be helping the girls keep in touch with their friends and families while they're at Clan 2002. Can you guess how he will do that?

...Well, he's on the letterbox. He wasn't getting much attention on 6 January as the photo at right shows, though the girls had just arrived and weren't yet thinking of home!

The Official Opening was a great success, if a little cold with the breeze coming off the "moors".

Agribusiness

Lots of "hands-on" farming activities including horticulture and a variety of animals - based near a farming community at the edge of the Taieri Plains.

Animal Antics

Fins, fur, feathers and fun - a variety of animal care activities in and around Dunedin. Includes a visit to a vet and overnight at the aquarium.

Aviation

An introduction to flying the "high" road around the Taieri Plain. Experience the fun and thrill of learning to fly, as a qualified flight instructor takes you through the basics. Theory and practical flights introduce you to obtain a pilots licence. Age 16 years +.

Beaches, Tunnels and Castles

Explore surfing beaches, tunnels and caves plus local castles and what they have to offer by day and by night. See seals, penguins and albatrosses. Surf life saving (optional).

Bounty Hunting in Otago

Detective skills, cunning, intuition and a sharp eye needed for this job - a brief on a wanted "criminal" is given and the you then set off to find……..

"travelling & sightseeing", "doing good turns for farmers", "driving into the bush at 10.30pm to find a clue", "catching the bounty in Dunedin"

Bridge to Bridge Rafting

A rafting journey/ challenge for source to (almost) sea. Thrills in the outdoors as you experience the fun and tumbles of going down a river by raft. Near the end the Taieri 7 Event Challenge awaits you. Bring your own wetsuit. Moderate fitness.

Canoe Journey

A 5 day journey in Canadian canoes, on the mighty Clutha river - includes training and rescue training. Must be able to swim 50m with confidence.

City Discovery

Visit everywhere that Dunedin is famous for. Be the proper "tourist", experience famous buildings, wildlife venues and take part in leisure activities - discover Dunedin's delightful atmosphere.

Craft Craze

Something for everyone as you do a range of crafts. A professional tutor will take you through steps to complete wonderful projects - takeaway goodies.

Crazy Adventure - Wild Earth

This is the one for the adventurer who is having difficulty making up her mind which one to try! Experience 1 day each of kayaking, mountain biking, team activities, rock climbing/abseiling. Moderate fitness needed. Need to be able to float.

Dunstan Trail

Famous in New Zealand! This is a biking expedition. Take the TAIERI Gorge train, bike the Rail Trail and loop back over the Dunstan Trail. Moderate fitness required.

Equestrian Experience

Equestrian care and riding for those who can already walk, trot and canter on horseback. Overnight trek included. 15 years plus.

Flatting Together

Discover the joys of flatting on campus - learn the skills that you need - buy your groceries and cook all your meals - with a "best flat" competition. 16 plus.

Write, produce and present your own radio programme, with the guidance of a local radio station. Visit other media producers too.

Scuba Diving

An intensive practical and academic course, pool sessions - you will get a referral letter to complete open water dives in your home area. Need a passport photo and lightweight wetsuit. A special medical form will be sent to participants prior to the event plus a manual on diving.

Sea Kayaking

2 days skill training and then an adventure along the coast! Supply own wetsuits. Moderate fitness required.
