REPORTS OF AURORA AUSTRALIS SEEN DURING
Jan 29 14:20 While photographing Comet McNaught 2006/P1 this aurora was also captured. Lower parts green, middle orange and upper part purple due to it being sunlit.
(S45.0 E168.7) - Queenstown, Otago, New Zealand
14:30 Also while photographing Comet McNaught a faint purple glow was captured below the comet. The glow was not seen visually.
(S40.3 E175.4) - Glen Oroua, Manawatu, New Zealand
15:00 A faint ray to an elevation of about 20°, azimuth 170° was seen passing through the tail of the comet. A glow in the south was noticeable.
