January 12 10:10 Sky in S was regularly brightening and dimming and at this time a small, faint group of rays 'popped up'.
                (S39.6 E177.0) - Hastings, New Zealand

January 17 09:30 to 11:30 Rapidly changing variations in brightness accompanied by a few sets of rays that tended to be in the SW.
                (S39.6 E177.0) - Hastings, New Zealand
            12:40 No aurora visible despite sky being almost completely clear.
                (S44.0 E170.5) - Tekapo, Canterbury, New Zealand

January 18 10:10 Some faint rays seen in S and SW despite moonlight.

            12:30 Faint glow centred on magnetic S.
                (S44.0 E170.5) - Tekapo, Canterbury, New Zealand
            Later Glow spread over azimuth of 30 and to elevation of 20 at times. Very faint at times; stronger to SSE on the horizon, but cirrus sillouhetted on aurora.
                (S39.0 E174.2) - Waitara, Taranaki, New Zealand

January 19 13:00 Strong glow S to SW, varying in elevation and brightness. Occasionally some faint rays 'popped up'.
