Oct 1 09:15 to 09:35 Red glow around Canopus. At one stage the glow extended to the False/Diamond Cross region. Fainter red glow could be seen as far west as Crux. All this despite near full moon in sky.
                (S42.5 E173.4) - Claverley, North Canterbury, New Zealand
            09:35 Red patch S 15 elev, IBC 2 to 3. It lasted only a few minutes.
                (S41.6 E172.7) - Collingwood, Nelson, New Zealand
            10:10 Noticed strong glow along southern horizon S to SW.
            11:00 Glow noticeably fainter.
                (S40.3 E175.4) - Glen Oroua, Manawatu, New Zealand

Oct 3 09:20 Rays in SSE.
                (S46.5 E168.4) - Invercargill, New Zealand
            09:33 to 09:43 Homogeneous glow az 160 to 250 to 20 elev. Upper edge at first through middle of False Cross and gamma Cru. Greenish tinge. Occasionally brightened slightly at around az 250. At end of period it had faded somewhat and dropped about 2.

            14:40 Red glow S to SW.
            14:50 Patches up to 15 elev. Small rays seen despite near full moon.
            15:10 Red glow moved; now S to SW.

            15:00 Bright aurora SE to SW to about 30 elev. Red glow SW to W. Broad rays in S with sideways movement obvious. Pulsating. Bright line in spectroscope.
            15:15 Glow faded but line in spectroscope still visible.

Oct 11 approx. 08:00 Green glow in S and bright white glow in SW; to 30 elev.
            09:30 Red and green bands between clouds and hill and some 'lazy' rays of pink, green and white in S.

            10:30 Faint glow on horizon SSE to SSW. Overcast elsewhere.
            12:35 Similar.
            13:40 to 14:00 Sky now clear. Glow SSE to SSW to 10 elev. Line seen in spectroscope.

Oct 12 09:25 Noticed glow az 160 to 220 to 10 elev. Not sure if it was an aurora.
            09:30 Saw pinkish, broad (2) rays lasting about 1 minute az 170 reaching to 20 to middle of False Cross. They were best seen with averted vision. Glow now subtle green.
            09:35 Two greenish rays in S reaching to Diamond Cross elev 30. Lasted about min.
            09:40 Rays gone. Glow now to only 5 elev.
            09:43 Two greenish rays az 200 to 30 elev; reaching to Southern Cross.
            09:45 Glow now developed into arc 2 to 5 at highest part at az 190. Ceased observing.

            10:00 Green to white glow SE to SW to 20 elev; IBC 2 or 3.
                (S45.8 E169.3) - Edievale, West Otago, New Zealand
            10:30 Green glow S to SW and a few red rays reaching to False and Southern Crosses.
                (S46.4 E169.8) - Otekura, South Otago, New Zealand
                Resumed observing. Glow az 160 to 220, to 5 elev.
            10:40 Glow striated with faint broad beams.
            10:45 Glow seems 'lumpy' and stretches from Canis Major rising in SE to Scorpius setting in SW.
            10:50 Most of glow faded except for two rays 5 apart in SW.
            10:55 Only a bright patch on horizon in SW.
            11:00 Arc from az 170 to 230, to 3 elev. Several rays particularly one at az 190. Ceased observing.

            11:50 to 12:00 Main glow faded somewhat. Bright broad rays in S to high overhead.
            13:45 to 14:00 Display still visible but fainter. Broad rays due S similar to that at 12:00.

            08:16 to 11:00 No sign of any aurora.

            13:45 Sky overcast except for a bright glow just above the horizon in S and in SW. Towards the W it was bright enough (through cloud) to show a line in the spectroscope.

            14:09 to 16:00 No sign of aurora.

            15:30 Faint pink patches and some white rays.

            15:40 The sky was pink/red with rays.
            15:55 Faded only to return 5 minutes later.

            15:50 to 16:30 Marked glow low in the sky az 140 to 220 with curtains above to 70 elev. mostly between 14 and 190. Some red visible in easternmost curtains. Morning twilight increasingly made aurora invisible.

            15:50 to 16:05 Noticed medium bright vertical beams to 40 elev in magnetic S, gradually changed and migrated to geographic S over 15 minutes.
                (S43.4 E172.0) - Waddington, Canterbury, New Zealand
            15:50 to 16:50 Auroral curtain SE to SW. Distinctly reddish glow in the rays to the SE.
                (S42.6 E171.0) - Hokitika, New Zealand
            16:00 Aurora intensified and spread across southern sky. Lots of rays!
                (S42.3 E171.1) - Greymouth, New Zealand
            16:02 Broad bundle of colourless rays appeared ranging from SSE to S to 20 elev. Brightest to the SSE; to the right of alpha Cen.
            16:05 Rays fainter.
            16:07 No sign of any rays.

            16:05 to 16:15 Red base az 165 to 195 with about 3 white rays and 1 green one to elev 10 to 15.
