Sep 7 16:00 Bright green patch in S.
                (S46.4 E169.8) - Otekura, South Otago, New Zealand

Sep 10 07:30 No sign of aurora.
            07:40 to 08:10 Whitish glow in S to elev 5°.
            08:15 No sign of aurora.
                (S45.1 E171.0) - Oamaru, North Otago, New Zealand

Sep 13 09:15 to 09:30 Rayed arc or folding band, dim green with maybe hint of red. N through zenith to S. Momentarily bright as brightest stars.
                (S77.9 E166.8) - Scott Base, Antarctica
            10:20 Noticed whitish glow to elev 20°above large clouds in SW while driving south in car.
                (S46.1 E170.0) - Milburn, East Otago, New Zealand
            10:50 Clearer view of sky confirming auroral glow.
                (S46.2 E169.8) - north of Balclutha, East Otago, New Zealand
            11:05 White glow still, to 18° elev.
                (S46.2 E169.7) - west of Balclutha, East Otago, New Zealand
            12:30 Glow SSE to SSW to 10° elev. IBS 1. Confirmed with spectroscope.
            14:08 Similar but fainter.
            14:45 Glow now confined to S. Lovely clear night!

Sep 15 11:00 Rays to the N, sideways movement, bright enough to blot out faint stars.
            13:00 to 13:30 Corona and rayed band. N to S but concentrating overhead. Sideways movement of rays. Bright as brightest stars. No obvious colour but perhaps hint of green.

Sep 16 08:50 Glow SSE to SSW to 15° elev. Moon in sky but glow confirmed with spectroscope.
            09:30 Bright ray just E of S to 30° elev. Fainter rays in SW.

            09:00 to 10:00 Glow and rays.
                (S45.8 E169.3) - Heriot, West Otago, New Zealand
            09:55 Reddish rays at az 160° to 30° elev. Broken band az 160° to 220° at 3° elev. IBC 2.
            10:00 Rays had faded but then band brightened to greenish colour az 160° to 210°, elev 3°. IBC 3. Rays reappeared; some quite narrow: ¼° wide.
            10:05 Band faded. Ray bundles at az 160° and 190° to 20° elev.

            10:10 White rayed arc fluctuating, in N to NE, not overhead.
                (S77.9 E166.8) - Scott Base road, Antarctica
            10:15 Most structure gone. Stable 1° square patch at az 160° elev 3°. A 1° long by ½° high patch at az 190°, elev 3°, brightened for a few seconds at a time, and then disappeared for 1 or 2 minutes, repeatedly over a period of 10 minutes.

            11:15 to 11:30 Much brighter but now low on horizon SE to SW. Patches of light brighter in places. Greenish to yellowish. Fading and reappearing rapidly.
            15:00 Total fog!

Sep 27 08:15 Glow on horizon SE to SW, elev 15°, IBC 1.
            08:20 Rays to 30° elev in SSE and S. Confirmed with spectroscope.
            08:30 Largely faded.
            08:15 Similar to 08:15. No rays.
            09:00 Moon rising. Glow only, SE to SW. Strong spectral line.
                (S45.8 E169.3) - Edievale, West Otago, New Zealand
            09:15 Single broad ray in S. Lasted about 1 minute.
            09:23 Two broad rays in S radiating out from S point below horizon. Lasted about ½ minute. Difficult to see because of staring into a streetlight! Near full moon rising in east.
                (S45.7 E168.9) - Waikaia, northern Southland, New Zealand
            09:30 Brighter now. Yellowish glow to 30° elev. There could have been rays to 30°; spoilt by Moon. Strong line in spectroscope showing extent of glow. Could be other colours. Ceased observing.

            16:45 Light cloud. Green band with touches of white and red in S.

Sep 28 08:00 to 10:00 White glow to elev 6°. Milky Way visible behind glow.
                (S45.1 E171.0) - Oamaru, North Otago, New Zealand
            09:40 to 09:50 Homogeneous glow S to az 260°, elev 20°. Bluff lights reflecting off clouds interfered with eastern extent of aurora. About 50% cloud in sky. Occasional broad rays (about 1° wide) appeared in cloud gaps.
                (S46.4 E168.3) - Otatara, Invercargill, New Zealand
            11:20 Clouds unusually dark above Port Hills and suspected a glow there to elev 35°.
