Apr 2 0930 Glow with red and green colouring in it seen through light cloud.

Apr 3 0940 Large white patch in south, which turned to green after a while, with a smaller pink patch beside it. Moon behind thick cloud.

Apr 24 0830 Colourless strongly vertically banded area of light low on the horizon about 10 W of S. It then "collapsed" to a diffuse glow before fading away about three minutes after first noticing it.
                (S41.8 E171.9) - Inangahua, Westland, New Zealand
            approx 1000 Looked bright in south and SW; greenish white. Cloudy in east.

Apr 26 0735 to 0745 Faint rays with a suggestion of reddish tinge, continually appearing and disappearing, each lasting typically 20 s. S to SW to 15 alt. Fainter than Milky Way.
                (S46.5 E168.3) - Otatara, Invercargill, New Zealand
            0900 Faint glow low in SE to SW. Confirmed in spectroscope.
                (S45.8 E169.3) - Edievale, West Otago, New Zealand
            0910 to 1040 Definite brightness in S and SW. Also SE was pink through the fog (not thick). At one stage rays moved up to approx. 45 alt in S and SW. Higher colour of pink in SE. Later in viewing time the colour in the S turned to white. Then fog got thicker.

            0930 to 1000 Faint rays.

            0945 Brighter now. Still in SE to SW.

            1020 No aurora visible.
                (S46.5 E168.3) - Otatara, Invercargill, New Zealand
            1100 Glow still visible.

            1230 Auroral arc az 180 to 197 at alt 4 to 5.
            1300 Still the same.
            1313 1 wide ray developed at az 188 rising to alt 12 (IBC 1). Arc brightened somewhat.
                (S46.1 E168.9) - Gore, Southland, New Zealand
            1445 Glow still brighter (as at 0945).
            1500 Similar.
                (S45.8 E169.3) - Edievale, West Otago, New Zealand

Apr 29 1100 Partial rayed arc. Pinkish colour.
