Swingers is a smart, hip, low budget little comedy about a group of twenty somethings who go out on the town looking for love.
Swingers stars Jon Favreau as an aspiring comedian/actor who has just come of a long term relationship. Despite moving from New York to Los Angeles and having broken off the relationship six moths
ago he is still not over his ex girlfriend. His buddies lure him out on to the town every night to try and get him to find a new girl, but he just can't get over his old one. While his best buddy Trent (Vince Vaughn) is having great luck he sees them more as conquests as do the rest of the Jon Favreau character's friends. Swingers comedy mainly comes from it's satire of young males ideas about relationships and the humorous outbursts from Jon Favreau. It must be noted that film's wonderful script was also written by the star Jon Favreau who clearly catches the sights and sounds of twenty something's nights on the town. The dialogue is keenly observed some of it sounds like the stuff some of your best friends might have said when providing advice on relationships.
Swingers is a wickedly funny film there are countless great scenes in this movie which will have people from the under forty crowd smiling with amusement. And despite the fact that the topic of the film is
familiar few movies about this topic ring truer than this keenly observed realistic comedy.
For film buffs you will also notice there a few scenes in this classy movie which pay homage to such films as Reservoir Dogs and Goodfellas. These scenes are funny, well done and fun for people who remember those scenes which this film pays homage to.
Swingers made a star of Vince Vaughn but it should have made one out of Jon Favreau. Jon Favreau not only wrote this movie's great script but also delivers a dead on performance. His character comes alive and he is also involved in several of the movies funniest scenes one includes an incident with a telephone answering machine.
This is a terrific movie and one of the best from a very good year of film making. It has a great script and is enforced by a wonderful lead performance. Swingers is the definitive movie from the male/female relationships genre.
