Clubrooms

 

On the 21st of June 1969 the new clubrooms were opened at Napier St  by Mr. A.C.Rippin senior vice-president of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union.The club was their for 23  years, shifting to the former St Patricks Hall under the name Celtic Sports Centre.

 

Celtic Sports Ground

In 1980 11 acres was purchased from Mr W.M.Cavanagh.
The entire area was cropped for the next three years,barley,ryecorn being the main crops harvested.
May 1983,Doug Hood Ltd was engaged to level the ground.Heavy earthmoving equipment was used in the form of graders and laser leveling equipped earth scraper.
Playing fields sown in grass in 1984.
Pine tree shelter planted on eastern and southern boundaries in 1984.
A building was purchased and transported to the ground to serve as changing facilities in 1985.A water bore was also drilled for showering purposes. Goal posts erected on two fullsized rugby fields.
Lighting of both fields completed in 1986-87.
A new shower block built on the building was completed and fully operational for the 1987 season.
Most of this work has been carried out by club members and supporters.
A first class cricket wicket was completed in 1987.
